BASIC FACTS ON THE SOCIETY: 
The Society was founded in October 1990 in
Dún Laoghaire, Co. Dublin.
We promote the study of Irish genealogy, heraldry
and social history at home and overseas.
We promote the study of international genealogy,
heraldry and social history in Ireland.
We are a voluntary non-governmental organisation.
The Society hosts Open Meetings each
month on a
range of topics.
We are a democratic membership based
organisation with an elected Board of Directors.
We publish a monthly newsletter "Ireland's
Genealogical Gazette"
available on-line and in hardcopy and an Annual
Journal of research undertaken by members and friends of the
Society.
The Society has charitable status in the Republic of Ireland.
We are a company limited by guarantee and registered in Ireland.
We have a growing Archive of genealogical and heraldic material.
The Society is an educational organisation.
We have received a Grant of Arms from
the Chief Herald of Ireland.
We have also received with the Grant of Arms, a Heraldic Banner
and Heraldic Badge.
The Society is Ireland's premier publisher of genealogical material
in its
"Irish Genealogical Sources"
series.
We have restored and refurbished the Martello
Tower at Seapoint, Co. Dublin to house its Archive.
The Society has an international membership from all quarters of
the globe.
We are a member organisation of the international UK based Federation
of Family History Societies
and we are a member organisation of the National Genealogical
Society in the United States.
We are committed to social inclusion as a non-party political and
non-sectarian organisation and
we are committed to the principle of "Public Ownership
& Right of Access" to their heritage.
We are a strong advocate of the introduction of an Irish Genealogy
& Heraldry Bill.
The Society is a Nominating Body for Seanad Eireann (the Irish
Senate)
The Society always welcomes new Members
from Ireland and overseas.
